CutoutCraft is a free, browser-based background removal tool. It uses an on-device AI model to separate foreground subjects from their backgrounds, producing transparent PNGs you can use directly. The tool accepts 4 input formats (PNG, JPG, WebP, and BMP) up to 20MB each, and exports to 3 formats: PNG with transparency, JPG with a replacement background, or WebP for smaller file sizes.
Unlike server-based removers, CutoutCraft runs the entire AI pipeline inside your browser. The neural network model downloads once on first use (~30–40MB) and is cached locally, so repeat visits and offline use require no additional download. On Chrome and Edge 113+, the model runs on your GPU via WebGPU. Firefox and Safari fall back to WebAssembly, which still works but takes longer per image.
After removal, you can replace the background with a solid color or gradient, adjust edges with smoothing, feathering, and threshold controls, and export the result in your preferred format. Free users get 1 background removal per day at standard resolution. Pro users get unlimited removals at full resolution with all export formats and editing tools.

How the AI Model Works
CutoutCraft uses the @imgly/background-removal library to run a neural network segmentation model directly inside your browser. The model identifies foreground subjects at the pixel level and generates an alpha matte, which CutoutCraft applies to produce a transparent output.
On Chrome and Edge 113+, the model runs on your GPU through WebGPU, which handles most images in a few seconds. Firefox, Safari, and older browsers use a WebAssembly fallback that produces identical results at a slower speed. The model file is approximately 30–40MB and downloads once on first use. After that, your browser caches it locally, so subsequent visits and offline use load instantly with no network request.
